Dr. Archie Chen is one of Spokane’s most distinguished piano teachers — and one of the very few instructors in the Inland Northwest who maintains an active international concert career alongside his teaching practice. A Sony Classical recording artist, Dr. Chen has performed across Europe, North America, and Asia. Together with Rhona Gouldson-Chen, he leads a studio that teaches all ages and abilities.
Holding a doctorate in piano performance and trained at the highest levels of the conservatory tradition on multiple continents, Dr. Chen works primarily with intermediate-to-advanced and pre-conservatory students — those ready to take their playing to the highest level. His Spokane students have gone on to conservatory placements, competition awards, and fulfilling lifetimes of music.

Rhona specialises in laying strong foundations: fluent note reading, healthy technique from the very first lesson, a genuine love of music, and steady progress through the grades. She teaches all ages and abilities, and students who reach the intermediate and advanced stages may then continue with Dr. Archie Chen.

SHEBA CHEN
Sheba Chen

Sheba Chen began studying piano at just two years old and has grown into a dynamic young artist with a deep love for teaching and performance. She has studied with distinguished teachers including Lina Kiva, Evelyne Brancart, and Dr. Archie Chen, and was a participant at Interlochen.
A 4.0 student at Saint George’s School, Sheba is a recipient of the prestigious Katy Reeves Performing Arts Award and has been selected for All-State and All-Northwest Choir. With extensive stage experience in musical theatre and chamber choir, she brings confidence, creativity, and warmth into every lesson.
Sheba specialises in working with beginners and young students, building strong foundations in note reading, rhythm, technique, and expressive playing. Her approachable personality, patience, and enthusiasm help students feel encouraged and capable from their very first lesson.
