Piano Studio at Gonzaga University
Dr. Archie Chen joins the piano faculty at Gonzaga University as Adjunct Professor of Piano in Fall 2026, and is now accepting students into his Gonzaga piano studio for the fall semester. Whether you are a piano performance major, a music minor, or a student from any other discipline who wants to keep music in your life, there is a place for you at the piano.
Who Can Study Piano at Gonzaga?
Gonzaga’s Music Department welcomes all students to participate in private lessons, regardless of major. Dr. Chen’s studio is open to:
- Piano performance and music majors — rigorous applied study preparing you for careers in performance, education, and beyond
- Music minors and elective students — build real technique and artistry alongside your primary field of study
- Non-music students — engineers, nurses, business majors: if you play piano or want to learn, you are welcome
What You Will Study
Lessons cover technique, repertoire from Bach to contemporary composers, interpretation, and performance preparation — tailored to your level and goals. Dr. Chen is a Sony Classical recording artist whose teaching lineage traces directly to Beethoven, Liszt, and Leschetizky. Read more about his teaching philosophy and biography.
How to Join the Studio
Enrollment goes through the Gonzaga University Music Department. Prospective music majors audition through the department — see degree requirements and music scholarships. Current Gonzaga students of any major can register for applied piano lessons through the department.
